John Thornley


John Thornley has a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Architectural History from Dartmouth College and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from The Princeton School of Architecture. 


He began his professional career working with Eero Saarinen, he taught Architectural Design at the Rhode Island School of Design and, in 1976, he went to Rome and worked there for twenty years. His projects included: Federal Reserve Banks for the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, a building for the U.S. Air Force in Sinope, Turkey, a library for The Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City, and the United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He has spent all of his summers in South Truro and chose to live there year-round when he returned from Italy in 1996. While in Europe. he and his wife devoted themselves to studying the treasures of art and architecture as well as critically sampling the work of the locally acclaimed cuisines.
