(ZOOM) Examining Food in Modern Literature

$60.00

Wednesday Evenings January 21st & 28th, February 4th & 11th 6-8pm (ZOOM)

Examine how food is used as metaphor in modern literature to convey identity, culture, and social status, think “upper crust”, and how common phrases like "tough cookie", "big cheese" or “bad egg” are used to define people. Food often describes feelings of love and admiration, as in my “honey” and the “apple of my eye”. In this class you’ll look at works like Water for Chocolate, Chocolat, Rose, The Book of Salt, and The Scavenger’s Guide to Haute Cuisine with instructor, Emerson College professor Indira Ganesan
