$60.00
sold out

with Claude Kerven
Five Thursdays from 2-4 p.m.
February 1, 8, 15, 22, 29

on Zoom

NOTE: This is a free-standing course, one in a series of four being offered by Claude Kerven at the Open U. of Wellfleet on the history of film. Any of four courses have been designed to be taken independently. If you love film, then this course is for you.

Film Art will help you learn more about film analysis, period genres, movements in film style, film production, and more, and will deepen your understanding and enjoyment of watching movies.

Film Art is an introduction to the evolution of cinema from 1895-1990. This course covers the contributions of the screenwriter, director, cinematographer, editor and composer. By the end of the course students will have a far better understanding of the process of filmmaking and how it relates to appreciating the history and evolution of cinema.

This course will be useful for anyone who wants to know more about film for personal enjoyment, for the student hoping to enhance their college applications, and even for professionals who need to be more familiar and knowledgeable about the film industry.

This winter we are offering session #3, which will cover the years 1960-1990 and include the screening and discussion of the following films:

  •  Breathless (Jean Luc Godard) - New Wave

  • The Graduate (Mike Nichols) - New Hollywood

  • The Godfather (Francis Ford Coppola) - New Hollywood Part II

  • Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Steven Spielberg) – Blockbusters

  • Do the Right Thing (Spike Lee) - 80s Independent
