Toby Simon

Toby Simon retired 7 years ago from her role as the director of the Gertrude Hochberg Women’s Center at Bryant University. Serving as the first director, Simon’s responsibilities included providing leadership for programs addressing women’s concerns, collaborating with faculty and staff, and retention of women students.  Prior to her position at Bryant, Simon was the Vice President for Student Affairs at Marymount Manhattan College in New York.  Before assuming that role, Simon was an Associate Dean of Student Life at Brown University and Brown’s first director of the Office of Health Education.

She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Syracuse University and a Master’s Degree in Education at Tufts University. Simon has taught Human Sexuality courses at several colleges and universities and is the author of numerous articles and books on sexual assault, sexuality, and the connection between alcohol and sexual behavior.

For the past twenty-five years Simon has been working short stints in Haiti and serves on the boards of two Haitian non-profits.

The Open University of Wellfleet, MA a 501 c3,  aims to sustain and enrich intellectual life on the Outer Cape during the shoulder seasons. We offer courses to the public, for a modest fee, that celebrate the area's rich history and culture and draw on the talents and expertise of our residents. Our educational forum stresses collaborative learning, with lectures by instructors, directed discussions, readings and participant contributions. Our classes welcome participants from all over Cape Cod to some of Wellfleet's most charming and accessible locations.
