Class dates : October 16, 23, 30, November 6, 13.
Join Wellfleet Historical Society and Museum president Dwight Estey on an exploration of Wellfleet’s fascinating past.
The course begins with a timeline of this vibrant community that was built on the pillars of hard work, individualism, entrepreneurship and strong religious belief.
Then it is time to explore. Examine artifacts that tell the stories of another time. Walk the streets and waterfront that were formed during Wellfleet’s 19th century halcyon days. Visit gravesites of those who shaped the town - and were shaped by it. Examine the rise and fall of the population and industry, and its interconnection with ever-changing challenges.
Immerse yourself in the past and then ask, “How could such a small, out of the way town produce nationally and internationally successful individuals? Why does it continue to attract acclaimed artists, writers and scholars?”
Participants must be able to walk up to 1.5 miles over a two-hour period, remain on their feet for extended periods of time and negotiate both stairs and uneven surfaces. The walking pace will be conversational with many stops. Questions about suitability of the course for you should be directed to Dwight Estey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
